Building and Developing the Local and Regional Industrial Sector NIC has contributed effectively in building and developing the industrial sector in Kuwait by establishing such prominent companies as: Kuwait Asbestos Industries Company (1961). Petrochemical Industries Company (1961). Kuwait Pre-fabricated Buildings Company (currently Mabani) (1964). Kuwait Metals Pipes Company (1966). Kuwait Cement Company (1968). Since its establishment, NIC participated in all development phases of the State of Kuwait by establishing and developing numerous factories and producing the building materials needed to provide for the needs of the various development projects. The Company invested heavily in the construction of several of the largest of their kind in the Middle East region in terms of production capacity. NIC relies on two groups of manufacturing plants in Mina Abdullah and Sulaibiah. The Mina Abdullah manufacturing plants group produce lime-based products such as Limestone Bricks and AAC White Blocks. It also manufactures plastic-based products such as plastic pipes and fittings, in addition to a wide range of special-purpose building materials and other products for infra-structure projects and needs. The Sulaibiah factories produce cement-based products such as the ready mix and a various kinds of yard tiles, interlocking tiles and fencing curbstones, in addition to products necessary for infra-structure projects such as concrete pipes and accessories. Being keen and committed to attain and ensure high-quality products, both groups have been equipped with modern, sophisticated laboratories for product quality control and the development of new products. In the mid 1970 s the Company established and commissioned a factory for producing «Wara» and «Dana» vehicle batteries under a license from a leading Swedish company. It also established a plant for manufacturing chemical detergents which included «Persil» and «Dixan» washing powders licenced by «Henkel», Germany. Continuous Development Since its incorporation, NIC has adopted an expansion strategy for its industrial investments with a view to meet the country s development plans. It had recently established a ceramics and porcelain plant in Kuwait in addition to the paint plant, in order to achieve diversification and integration in building material. Local and International Industrial Investments in Diverse Sectors The Company s local industrial investments includes companies with multiple activities, such as the Building Systems Industries Company, Kuwait Rocks Company, Al-Raya International Real Estate Company, Qatar First Real Estate Development Company, Bayan Holding Company, Ikarus Oil Industries Company and Kuwait Energy Company. From the strong platform provided by its rich experience built over a period of fifty years, NIC, in partnership with GCC investors, established industrial companies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of Bahrain in addition to its other industrial investments in the energy and power sector, such as Dana Gas (UAE) and the Karachi Electrical Corporation (Pakistan). A great deal of attention is given to the strategy of opening new markets, NIC currently exports its products to such regional countries as Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kingdom of Bahrain, Qatar, Iraq and Jordan and intends to expand into new markets. Development of Technologies and Industrial Systems NIC has always sought to develop industrial technologies and manufacturing systems in line with the needs of the local market. In 2007, it developed a new technology to produce the light insulating blocks «the Mini AAC Plant» to serve emerging, small sized markets. This technology requires a smaller capital outlay and lower production and operation costs, but allows subsequent expansion with the progression of the market. An agreement was reached with a leading German company for producing the main equipment needed for this technology, and NIC registered a patent in the USA in order to protect its intellectual rights. 3

The company also produces live and hydrated lime, external cladding materials, ready concrete mix, cement tiles, interlocking tiles and curbstones for roads and square paving, concrete pipes and rocks extracted from the quarry, etc. Limestone, BRICKS & DECORATION BRICKS FACTORY Lime Factory Bricks and Decoration Bricks are ones of the first and most important products of the Company. they are widely used for building claddings inside and outside of Kuwait, where they have succeeded superbly in competing against other external cladding materials. NIC pioneered the production of these products since 1960 and has been the first to produce and distribute them since The Lime Factory is the only plant in Kuwait that produces Lime, Hydrated Lime and Pure Lime, as it covers all internal and external requirements. 7

CONCRETE PIPES FACTORY READY MIX FACTORY The company s concrete pipes factory is the largest and most modern of its type in the Middle East, with a yearly production capacity of 250 km (linear).

Due to the modern technologies owned by NIC and its integrated quality control program, this factory is a leader in its field. Pipes are produced by mixing the semi-dry concrete mixes by means of the vertical casting method using the latest procedures in the field of vibration technology. The new concrete pipes are treated in furnaces heated thermal oil and in a humid ambience. The raw materials of the products are procured and tested according to the British standard specifications. Only the raw materials that have successfully passed the tests are used in the production phase. aggregates and sand are washed at the factory before use. NIC is the pioneer in the Ready Mixed Concrete industry in the State of Kuwait. In the year 1965 our first Ready Mix Concrete production factory was established, to keep abreast with the rapid growth of the building sector in Kuwait. Since its establishment, the factory is contributing Ready Mixed Concrete for the major projects of both public and private sectors, such as Ministry of Public Works (MPW), Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW), Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW), Kuwait Oil Sector (KNPC & KOC) and all other types of government projects. 11 THE PLASTIC FACTORY HIGH DENSITY POLY-ETHYLENE PIPES FACTORY (HDPE) Established in 1982 for providing for the needs of the local market and neighboring markets for plastic materials as a substitute for metallic materials, this factory is one of the largest in the entire Middle East region, with a production capacity of 6000 tons of PVC and PPR pipes and 500 tons of accessories. Pipe diameters range from 16 to 400 mm. Production is carried out according to the German international standards (DIN), British Standards (BS) and US standards (ASTM) as well as Saudi and Kuwaiti standards specifications. In addition, the factory can adapt its production to suit any other standard specifications the customer may desire. The High Density Poly-Ethylene Pipes Factory (HDPE) was established in 2002 in response to the increase demand from the Kuwaiti and neighboring markets for ever lasting products, light weight pipes and waste water manholes that suit their projects. The factory is one of the largest in the Middle East, with an annual production capacity of 2000 tones of High Density Poly-Ethylene (HDPE) pipes and accessories. The diameters of HDPE pipes range from 400 to 4000 mm, and are produced according German (DIN), British (BS), European (ISO), US (ASTM) and Saudi and Kuwaiti specifications. The HDPE Pipes Factory can adapt its production to suit any other standard specifications the customer may desire. 9

This product owes it importance and popularity to its excellent quality, insulating properties, ease of handling important works and cost saving. Not only has this technology provoven its liability in the local market, but also in the regional markets that NIC had established a plant in Oman, two plants in KSA and one plant Bahrain, By that, NIC is considered one of the largest White Blocks manufacturers in the world. NIC was the first company to produce tile and interlocking tiles in the State of Kuwait. The company continues to develop this product in forms and colors. Tiles and interlocking tiles of the Company are available in a wide variety of dimensions and sizes, thereby increase the possibility of combining several kinds in the same project in order to present attractive designs in different colors and multiple services. The Company offers the service of transferring the tiles to the work site in order to ensure that the customer receives the product in a sound condition. NIC also provides advice and technological services related to the methods of tiling, protection and maintenance. The Paints Factory produces water based products such as primers and acrylic putty. It also produces solvent based types such as alkyd paints, alkyd resins and others. Installation of the Paints Plant started during the first quarter of It operates with an annual production capacity of 5 million liters. Cladding materials are the most recent products of an integrated system available in the market. They constitute a sound and integrated system specialized in building facades according to the highest international specifications; the German standard (DIN) and US standard (ASTM). The NIC cladding system consists of four layers: splashing, lining, external and colored protective layers. The best benefits that this product provides are the speed and ease of use, strong adhesive properties, resistance to weather effects and cracks and its availability in a variety of colors that satisfies most tastes. 11

14 THE CERAMICS FACTORY THE QUARRY the ceramics plant was installed in June 2011 and the trial prodiction commenced in December of the same year. the production capacity of the plant is estimated at 20,000 square meters daily, distributed amongst four seperate production lines. The plant was completed under the supervision of Siti BT Italian company, which is one of the leading companies specialized in installing equipment pertaining to ceramics production. The Dolomite lime quarry is located in the East Ahmadi area. It started production in The work involves preparation of area to be drilled for the various different production aspects. This step is followed by moving the stones, rocks and soil to the sorting area where a large number of sieves is maintained. The sieves sort the stones and rocks according to the desired size and weight. The quarry also contains a crushing plant with a high production capacity of aggregate of various sizes. the total area of the plant is estimated at 6,4000 square meters. 12
